Type Locality and Naming
The type section is at Nanshichong in Xiangtaoyuan, Taojiang County, Hunan. The Nanshichong Fm was named by Jin Yuqin et al. (1964), and was published by Central-South Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale (1974).
Synonym: (南石冲组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Nanshichong Fm is characterized by dark gray mudstone, with black shale in the upper part. In the type area, the Nanshichong Fm is 25 m thick.

Lower contact
This stratigraphic unit rests conformably on the brownish yellow shale yielding abundant graptolite and trilobite at the top of the Modaoxi Fm
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the siliceous shale of the Wufeng Fm
Regional extent
It is widespread in Central Hunan.
